From Bach to Becker and back again.

The spider fingers roam the frets
precisely weave a web of notes
cockerel claws pluck at the strings
and from the yew tree hollow
issue the mellow notes of nature
wells of sweet still water
mysteriously springing up
from aquifers deep, unseen.
An artifice and skill of human kind
we sit in rows spell blind
in temple made of quartz and gaudy glass
depicting what that age thought reverent
of distant saints who long time passed
as do these notes in time
hang fleetingly upon the air
reverberate, rebound, then fade away.
And so we sit silently entranced
conveyed by notes in space and time
to distant place and long departed mind
we did not know and cannot find
save by those marks distinctly made
the skills that made and played
these intruments of sounds divine
that penetrate our ears.
Bemused by music imitating what
we cannot say or know
or indeed of those who play
or those we sit beside
when every note is come and gone
all that remains an effervescent song
an energy a quality of sound
a memory from mind to mind.
From finger tip upon a string
reverberation time from soul to soul
oh who can tell or who devine
the depths from which the waters flow?
9.10.2025: There is something irretrievably arrid and depressing about atheism and you witness it in its proponents. Perhaps it is something to do with the arrogance and hubris of the 'know it all'; the self-centredness of absolutist and despot, charges that historically have been levelled against religion itself! As far as Christians are concerned, Jesus epitomised the godly life. He even claimed divinity to himself, saying he was not of this world. In so doing he drew the distinction between the physical and secular, between the spiritual and eternal. Science describes but it does not explain or satisfy the emotional life. It is difficult to conceive of such a meticulously ordered world, without an ordering 'mind', or morality without a fount of truth and justice. Human barbarism is an affront to the divine, and especially if it is carried out in its name. That is the message of the cross, which has lost none of its significance in the subsequent two millenia. We all witness it today - the stark contrast between temporal power and human virtues. God is not found in human institutions but in the soul of man and every man must rediscover it for himself. It is the eternal ultimate quest and the key to contentment and 'self actualisation'. 3.10.2025: Unfortunately the majority of the jewish population of israel have wholeheartedly supported the military, economic and geographical extinction of palestinians. It is almost universally acknowledged that America and Israel primarily, have been engaged in genocide. They are currently engaged in herding hundreds of thousands into insanitary concentration camps lacking food and basic amenities, where they will undoubtedly die. They have no where else to go. They are trapped, bombed and gunned down without mercy. The agenda is set by this group that also controls the media and policy priorities and is quite prepared to organise groups and events - often violent - to further its ends to ensure public opinion is suitably corralled to accept it. Starmer has carried out the Deep State's pro-zionist American wishes and been suitably rewarded. But everyone knows he is on the rocks and unlikely to survive. No doubt the deep state has a plan B if this administration or parliament collapses. Obviously Farage's lot are riding a wave and waiting in the wings but are largely an unknown quantity of dubious intellect and experience. Terrorist events are a well known method of getting desired results but can also back-fire. Whether the recent Manchester Synagogue fits into that mould people will have to decide. I haven't come to an opinion as I'm still stuck on the killing of Charlie Kirk. Need I say more? Places of true religion and children have been targeted by unscrupulous individuals and organs because of their emotional impact unfortunately but we should all be live to how we are being manipulated and by whom.
BANK CLOSURES
It is a part of a far bigger and deeper financial corruption I'm afraid. Half a TRILLION was thrown away on the covid scam, rife with fraud, which in turn pushed inflation up to 12% and put Labour's claimed 22 billion 'black hole' in the shade (if that's physically possible!) The tax payer and consumer pick up the bill to pay for the interest on the national debt which stands at over £8 billion p.a. and rising, on a debt of £37 TRILLION! The banks are following a policy set by government and central banks, in which the interests of the customer and general public hardly feature. We are all just numbers on a card and worth less than a digit despite all the PR slogans. When the last of the apples cling to the boughs, All brown forlorn and drooping down, And Long Tailed Tits in clusters fly in to peck the softening fruit, You know that summer once again is gone, And all the Swallows have flown home. It's then when sitting all alone, the shadows deepen with the clocks gone back, There's little here to cheer or yet to awaken joy or zeal or optimism, Surrounded by a world of deadly deeds and depressing almanak. The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, although both Saint and fields have long since gone, Yet still Mozart and Scarlatti still emanate from its vaulted halls, Where once with John we soaked up Christmas joy, On cusp of winter's cold and cheerless spell, In basement there, where homeless slept, We sipped at punch or was it port, in any event, it seemed in season, unaware of what he really felt. It's now Revel that issues over air, what magic I wonder brings it here, from mind to ear, across the medium of air and years? Scarlatti's Keyboard Sonata, Skelly said was 'inward looking'. I wonder how he knew? Or was it just a statement of the obvious, Because from where else does music flow? Now with Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin a different vibe, we hear or see the Tomb of Couperin, And who was he I hear you ask? Because I too was ignorant, I had to look him up, One composer's paean for another. Music passes time with note on note, It flies with trills and different instruments, harmonious, What other solace is there for a vacant abandoned place, Except a radio conveying ochestral sounds, and orange flames that leap right up from logs, to mingle with the night time air, upward upward into space? Just one lone tapper keeping track of memories and passing time, deserted, waiting for the final chord, the finale of the Paris Symphony, the cheers, whilst back at Portland Place the audience awaits the fruit called innocence to fall.
