(Em)bracing Trump!

Unpredictability and inconsistency (like the air in Skegness!) can be bracing, keeping everyone on their toes, but the prevailing 'MAD' (mutually assured destruction) strategy between the USA and USSR throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's had a certain schizophrenic rationality about it that may have prevented Armageddon.

Like you, I thought Trump was preferable to the alternative because he came from somewhere outside the cosy and corrupt establishment, but negative attributes only go so far. He appears to me a bit like our own Boris, but lacking the intellect and subtlety. Like a street trader suddenly put in charge of the Corporation, he was clearly out of his depth and thought that reducing all the world's complex issues to "a very nice man" would solve them.

The danger is of course that any man not in charge of his brief, becomes the puppet of others, the very problem he was elected to solve. When assessing Trump it is therefore more important to assess his close advisors - Pence, Tillerson, Mnuchin, Mattis, Sessions and Zinke. Not to mention his many White House advisors including the three 'B's': Bannon, Bossert and Bremberg and the simpering Conway - possibly well named.

Bannon of course only lasted to the 18th August; Reince Priebus was fired from his role as White House chief of staff in July 2017 and replaced by John Kelly.

All in all, an Administration, that like a new building, is still settling and showing the cracks. Whether in the long run it will survive the hurricane or cause one, waits to be seen. For the moment I can only recall the words of Lloyd Bentsen to Dan Quayle: "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy" and my goodness how we could do with someone of his character and stature now!

Following excerpts from: http://www.awdnews.com/society/assange-forget-russia,the-real-threat-to-america-comes-from-israel-and-the-israel-lobby

"But early into his speech, Assange said that while more revelations were to come, he would not be making any major announcements, asserting that there would be no point in dropping making such revelations at a time when most Americans would be sleeping.

"Russian actions on its own doorstep in Eastern Europe do not in fact threaten the United States or any actual vital interest. Nor does Moscow threaten the U.S. through its intervention on behalf of the Syrian government in the Middle East.

That Russia is described incessantly as a threat in those areas is largely a contrivance arranged by the media, the Democratic and Republican National Committees and by the White House.

Candidate Donald Trump appeared to recognize that fact before he began listening to Michael Flynn, who has a rather different view.
Hopefully the old Trump will prevail.

There is, however, another country that has interfered in U.S. elections, has endangered Americans living or working overseas and has corrupted America’s legislative and executive branches.

It has exploited that corruption to initiate legislation favorable to itself, has promoted unnecessary and unwinnable wars and has stolen American technology and military secrets.

Its ready access to the mainstream media to spread its own propaganda provides it with cover for its actions and it accomplishes all that and more through the agency of a powerful and well-funded domestic lobby that oddly is not subject to the accountability afforded by the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) of 1938 even though it manifestly works on behalf of a foreign government. That country is, of course, Israel" Said Assange.

As the Act (the Anti-Semitism Awareness Bill) is clearly intended to restrict First Amendment rights if they are perceived as impacting on broadly defined Jewish sensitivities, it should be opposed on that basis alone, but it is very popular in Congress, which is de facto owned by the Israel Lobby. That the legislation is not being condemned or even discussed in the generally liberal media tells you everything you need to know about the amazing power of one particular unelected and unaccountable lobby in the U.S." END QUOTE.
