Trumpeting Jerusalem (or Jericho)?

"Blow your own trumpet or your trumpet will not be blowed."

Now we have Trump reinforcing Jewish/Israeli arrogance by announcing the United States will recognise Jerusalem as the capital of that entity, established only seventy years ago by foreign nations and military occupation.

Why should Jews alone regard it as there's when for the majority of the last two thousand years it was largely Arabic but regarded as the spiritual homeland to at least THREE great religions?

This decision by Trump, a simple minded egotist surrounded almost completely by Jewish advisers and clearly prejudiced against anyone not of a Judeao/Christian culture, will inflame an already tense situation, and encourage even more human rights violations by a brutal occupying army - particularly of East Jerusalem.

Israeli Jews - ironically largely Russian and East European - have shown themselves to be acquisitive and duplicitous in the best traditions of their trade, and this will encourage them to greater (worse) feats. Jerusalem should be the possession of no one and everyone.

If Israeli Jews could contain their xenophobia and hubris, they could propose an international and de-politicised status for Jerusalem to represent all the people with a stake in it. Do I think that likely on past performance? No.

Trump it would seem, knows what side his bread - or more perhaps appropriately, bagel - is buttered. The rest will have to make do with the scraps that fall from the master's table.

"Although Trump affirmed Jerusalem as the ‘capital’ of Israel, he didn’t call it the ‘undivided capital’ of Israel as supporters of the Jewish state constantly stipulate, suggesting that the US would still support potentially dividing Jerusalem between the Israelis and the Palestinians as part of any future peace negotiations. In advance of the speech, White House officials repeatedly stressed that Trump’s announcement doesn’t represent a change of US policy on the future borders of Jerusalem.

Here’s why that linguistic choice is so important. Both the Palestinians and the Israelis claim Jerusalem as their capital, and the city contains sites sacred to both Jews and Muslims. Though Israel’s parliament and the prime minister’s home are in Jerusalem, they sit in West Jerusalem, on the side of the city Israel has controlled since 1949. Israel captured East Jerusalem in 1967 and annexed that half of the city.

The international community considers East Jerusalem occupied territory. But that half of the city also contains sites holy to all three major monotheistic religions, including the Western Wall, the holiest place in the world where Jews can openly pray, and Haram al-Sharif, Arabic for “the Noble Sanctuary,” a sacred site for Muslims that Israelis refer to as the Temple Mount."

  2. Israeli official calls for occupying Damascus based upon teachings from the Torah

A senior Israeli official called on Saturday night for the occupation of the Syrian capital Damascus based on the teachings of the Jewish holy book the Torah, Felesteen newspaper reported.
During a TV show on the Israel’s Channel 2, Deputy Speaker of the Israeli Knesset Bezalel Smotrich said that Israeli borders are beyond the current borders and Jerusalem’s borders reach Damascus based on the Torah. Is this the Third Intifada?
