The Life Summary of Jonathan Veater (1791 - 1851) and some notable children.
When Jonathan Veater Sr. was born about November 1791, in Clutton, Somerset, England, his father, John Veater, was 34 and his mother, Elizabeth Rose, was 29. He married Mary Ann Dore on 4 November 1816, in Church, Somerset, England, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 7 daughters. He lived in Cameley, Somerset, England, United Kingdom in 1841. In 1847, at the age of 56, his occupation is listed as collier in Clutton, Somerset, England. He died on 10 May 1851, in Somerset, England, at the age of 59, and was buried in Cameley, Somerset, England, United Kingdom. It is quite remarkable how the two family lines share names and nearby birth dates. For example Arthur's son William was born in 1813, Jonathan's son William was born in 1816/17.

Joseph Dore Veater 1843 - 1930 first son of William (above)
Joseph was interesting because he joined the navy as a result of which his first son
Arthur William was born (1875) at Portland. Therein lies a family coincidence in that my own grandfather, the first born in the Chew family, was born only three years later (1878) and was also called Arthur William after his father and gfather respectively. Joseph retired from the navy (injured?) and returned to Bristol, where he is recorded as a Greenwich Pensioner and Insurance Agent, probably doing quite well as all his children were well educated, Arthur attending Bristol Grammar School (
