Wind in the White House Willows
“The majority is always wrong; the minority is rarely right.”― Henrik Ibsen"
There can't be many in the world unfamiliar with the classic children's book by Kenneth Graham called 'Wind in the Willows'. It's longevity lies in it's ability to charm both children and adults. Children are entranced by the adventures of a group of wild animals on or around the river bank, whilst adults are no less intrigued because the creatures are given human characteristics to which they can relate.
18.3.2025: As I have been saying for a long time, Britain needs to come to terms with its part in the terrible injustice and cruelty meted out to Palestinians. It is a shameful shambles of lies and deceit pretending one thing and doing the exact opposite, all fronted by our worthy politicians, spouting zionist propaganda, as if from a script. Britain has ACTIVELY supported genocide! By providing arms. By allowing American armaments flights to land. By providing Akrotiri. By flying hundreds of intelligence gathering missions over Gaza. By providing GCHQ intercepts to the Americans and Israelis. By providing covert SAS troops on the ground. By providing diplomatic and political cover for inexcusable barbarity. All this needs to be revealed as Britain sends ever more weapons to Zionist Ukraine, stoking rather than extinguishing war and its terrible human consequences. https://veaterecosan.blogspot.com/search?q=israeli+injustice
ARTICLE:
Those with a deep aversion to Trump, which is understandable, support any hyperbole just so long as it is critical of him.
He certainly divides opinion - even in the Congress, where one half keeps standing and applauding and the other half couldn't bring themselves to even clap, let alone to stand.
Trump has made a performing art out of egotism. In my primary school we would have just called him a 'Big Head'. Of course it is no joke when in reality he becomes with some justification, 'the most powerful man in the world'. The danger may well be greater even than having a certifiably cognitively impaired man in the role.
His style reminds me a lot of Mussolini. Alternatively the classic 'Wind in the Willows' character,'Toad', not without a little facial resemblance also, as it happens. But despite their character flaws even Mussolini and Toad were not without their good points; it's just that their flaws outweighed them.
Trump is quite right he is in his current position by virtue of the fact that he won every facet of the popular vote. How much this was to do with the competence of the former incumbant and his putative replacement is a moot point, and leaving aside Churchill's oft-quoted aphorism that "the minority is always right"* (we all know that some of the worst dictators did not lack public support - at least until it was too late to influence them) we can agree he won fair and square, and thereby he he has democratic legitimacy and within the confines of the Constitution, can do as he damn well chooses.
That then is the danger that lurks in the wings of American political theatre, not even hidden by the curtains. His stated actions are the earnest of his intent: Dismantling NATO; mass forced deportations; appropriating Canada and Greenland; taking back the Panama Canal; renaming the 'Gulf of Mexico'; supporting every Israeli evil imaginable including ethnic cleansing of Gaza; putting Iran on notice of a devastating attack; placating Russian aggression in Ukraine. You really couldn't make this stuff up! It is the C.V. of a meglomaniac.
The British King was forced to send a grovelling invitation, whilst at the same time witnessing a naked threat to a most important part of the historic Commonwealth?
But stop! Perhaps Trump is not as bad as he appears? Perhaps this is all bravado, the necessary chutzpah of the successful negotiator. After all 'you can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs' can you? (The fact that the phrase was coined by Joseph Stalin shouldn't worry us either!)
Underneath, Trump may be just another harmless 'Uncle Joe', or 'Koba' to his friends: that 'Robin Hood' character who took from the rich to give to the poor; although something tells me Trump might be more inclined to do the opposite. We shall no doubt see.
However if his side-kick J D Vance is anything to go by, a man who can turn from biggest critic to biggest lacky; who can turn from puritanical evangelical to traditional Catholic; the man who played a supporting role in the Zelinskyy ambush and attempted humiliation; we should not be surprised by anything Trump does. It will probably be deemed either good or bad, very much dependent on whether your personal prejudices and affiliations tend to love him or hate him in the first place.
(* Credited not to Churchill but to Henrik Ibsen apparently)
Trump's administration spokesperson talks a lot about Hamas 'terrorism' - by the way still repeating the falsehoods about killing babies on Oct. 7th - whilst totally ignoring Israeli terrorism. which has been happening continuously since 1948 and beyond. This failure to deal evenly and honestly with the violence perpetrated by BOTH sides destroys the President's ethical position. He is not against killing, unless it is Hamas killing; he's against violence, but only if it's Palestinian violence; he's against hostages, but only if they are Jewish ones; he's not against protestors, only Palestinian protestors; he's against torture but not if it's done by the IDF. How can such a biased person claim to be an independent mediator and arbitrator?
