The Capture, BBC One.
On Tuesday 3rd September, 2019 a new series called 'The Capture', started on BBC One. It ran until the 8th October in six episodes. It was an instant success.
The plot surrounds the experience of an Afghanistan veteran accused of illegally shooting a local, later being set up for the capture and murder of his barrister, with whom he attempts to begin an affair. This later charge is based on the illegal and corrupt manipulation of CCTV images, substituting him assaulting and abducting her, rather than merely seeing her off on a bus, unharmed.
Leaving aside the rather unlikely scenario of a leading barrister catching a bus, from what appeared to be a deserted underpass, the series did at least flag up the way in which modern all-pervasive security monitoring was susceptible to technical manipulation, falsifying of evidence, very difficult to disprove, with dire consequences for the targets concerned.
'Seeing is believing' after all, isn't it?
The Independent awarded it four stars, designating it an "intriguing, but rather flawed, sort of Big Brother thriller set in our contemporary world of digital snooping".

I was interviewing counter-terrorism operatives in the UK and USA and learnt a lot about their worlds and what they think about. One of the things that became really clear was how central video evidence is, and how it is often the most effective way of securing a conviction. At the same time I was increasingly aware of how much better and faster visual effects were becoming – and how it was possible to manipulate video. Those two worlds were colliding, and wouldn’t that make an interesting world for a drama?"
"As I was writing people were sending me links to articles and stories about the new dangers presented by fake news, facial recognition software etc. I was concerned to get the drama out as soon as possible. It’s hard to be timely in TV drama as things take at least two years. Fortunately it’s hit the right moment and I think we’re not just talking about what’s going on right now but also advancing the conversation, so there is plenty about the drama which feels fresh and relevant."
This drama series is one of several produced by the BBC in recent years that have been a hit at home and abroad. All touch on themes of espionage, terrorism and/or politics in Britain. They appear to mesh neatly with current events and propaganda relating to terrorist or other threats emanating from either Russia or the Middle East, but not of course from Jewish or Israeli factions. However it one thing to watch a thriller, that makes the point that we are all being watched with CCTV cameras and intercepted and followed whenever we use social media or internet and that both can be manipulated almost indiscernibly; but quite another to experience the phenomenon personally in real time.
A little over a week ago - on Tuesday 10th December, 2019 at 8.40 pm to be precise - I was checking out published video in relation to the Grace Millane murder in Auckland, New Zealand, particularly seeking out any inconsistencies that might occur, as the event itself as reported appeared highly suspect. These are discussed in a related article. Here I only wish to deal with what was unmistakenly tampering with the official video footage before my eyes!
In typing up the draft article, I was commenting on the fact that as the couple were returning to his or her (?) hotel room from the lift shown here @ 6:29 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsfiGT-anww the convicted murderer's outer shirt terminated at hip level, clearly showing his back jeans pocket and how this conflicted with other video shots purporting to be earlier the same evening where the shirt tail hung much lower over his buttocks. The difference could not be explained by other factors, such as a change of clothing - the video was said to be continuous the same evening - or posture such as might occur if his arms were raised.
Compare and contrast this image where the length of the over-shirt can be clearly seen in relation to the man's hips and back trouser pocket and the image that now appears in the video I have referenced above, proving that as I watched in real time, the original image has been digitally tampered with, so that the shirt length matches video of meetings somewhat earlier. No sooner had I typed this, this image also has now be changed to indicate a lower length!!!! It is impossible to keep up.
This difference was significant as it suggested two similar but different outer shirts were being worn within a three hour period or these were images taken at different times and possibly with different individuals.
However just as I was typing these observations, to my amazement, I watched as the image was changed before my eyes, as I flicked from one image to another. First a hatched area appeared momentarily, then this was filled in, resulting in a shirt tail that sat much lower and now covered the back pocket completely! That is now the image that appears on the video at @ 6:29 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsfiGT-anww as mentioned above.
I can only draw two conclusions from this disturbing circumstance:
one: that some intelligence agency had access the 'Blogger' app. and was actually monitoring what I was typing in real time and thought it sufficiently important to alter the video images in question; and
two: that some intelligence agency had the technical power to intercept and modify official news video posted on Youtube.
It is obviously impossible for me now to prove what I saw other than to replicate what I wrote to a sceptical friend at the time (see below) and that the video now clearly shows a shirt covering the buttocks and back pocket that were previously clearly visible.

Note in video below arriving hotel with case at 08:14. But another video shows him buying it 08:26. Thus the claim is made he arrived back at the hotel with it BEFORE he had purchased it!!!! A slight problem with the sequencing there.

8:40 A. I have just witnessed video manipulation before my very eyes!I have been working on the Grace Millane murder. I was pointing out an important discrepancy on the length of an over jacket and it was altered as i watched!!! So they are not only viewing my blog. They are viewing as i type the article and are correcting the video as i type! If only you were on board i cud have had a screen shot before the change.it pretty much confirms i am right tho. Consolation prize though no one will believe it. What a pointless exercise i'm engaged in?

9:30 PMYou would have been impressed and a little unnerved. At least those were my reactions. I know you have a healthy scepticism regarding all my views but i think i can PROVE this one to you if you are ever that interested because i describe what i see but the video now shows something different. What was even more chilling, as i went backwards and forwards between the video and my typing, i witnessed the shaded filling in as the shirt length was amended. That was a weird thing to witness given its implications that someone was reading what I typed and making the changes to the video in real time

9:35 PMThis is the second time it has happened regarding this case. I had previously pointed out that the victim entering the hotel with the accused had a different neck line to her dress as compared with video of their earlier meeting. Those observations and images have now disappeared and the necklines have been corrected. In addition most video stuff has disappeared from youtube - at least as far as i can see. i'm sure you would be much better at this stuff than me, but I just have to manage with my limited powers and a broken wcI described the original video as i viewed it. the man's shirt was well above his waist and back pocket. the effect of the manipulation which actually showed, was to lengthen the shirt so it covered his backside. The point of all this is of course that it pointed to two different shirts maybe on two different me, nmaybe two different days. in short ACTING
9:44 PMI HAVE BEEN VERY SLOW TO analyse that murder in NZ but it shouted out fabrication of some sort just because we had all the usual indicators. Its interesting that the highly publicised trial ran just when the P Andrew interview hit the fan and Prince Charles was doing an official tour there. It ended on the 22nd. She allegedly was murdered on her 22nd birthday. The significance of 11 and its multiples as you must by now know all about.
