WAR WITH RUSSIA?

Anti-Russian Propaganda and 'Cornering Russia'

From 'Critical Thinking'. Critical Thinking is a collaborative, educational project relying on contributions from diverse sources.

Hi Tim,
As citizens, we are all accountable for the actions of our "elected" governments. That we are lied to constantly explains but does not excuse our acceptance of government crimes - ignorance is no defence.

The first step is to understand that governments have taken powers way beyond what we as individuals could reasonably expect to have, eg. we regard the taking of a human life by another human being as unacceptable yet we empower the state to do it with impunity. The state is accountable to the people but has taken on powers unavailable to those who elect them. How does that work?

Empowered thus, the US government and its vassals (mainly the UK) have been conducting illegal wars to destroy nation states across the Middle East. Just this century, starting with Afghanistan under the false pretext of 9/11, the "coalition of the willing" began their "war of terror"; in 2003 we moved on to destroy Iraq (which had been under siege for over a decade) under the false pretext of WMD. The justification for attacking the most successful secular state in the region was the fake UN Responsibility to Protect (R2P) resolution used to bomb Libya to destruction - any protection the people of Libya enjoyed under Muammar Gaddafi is now long gone.

Syria is current work-in-progress but Russia has spoiled the party by attacking NATO/Israel's primary asset in the country, ISIS. Now the American people (and the rest of us) are being softened up for direct confrontation with Russia, the result of which could be catastrophic. So before we citizens allow that to happen, it is our responsibility to understand the illegal activities of our governments and remove them before they plunge the world into irreversible chaos and destruction.

Americans have some vague understanding that the U.S. wants Syria’s Assad to go, while Russia wants him to stay.
And Americans know that the U.S. “war against ISIS” hasn’t done much, while the Russians have been pounding Syrian targets with jets.
But Americans have no idea that the U.S. is deploying fighter jets designed solely to engage in plane-to-plane dogfighting … in order to counter the Russians.

According to a former British ambassador to Syria:  "Western powers have impaled themselves on this policy of calling for the downfall of Assad... but they can help by, for example, lifting sanctions on the Syrian economy which penalise only the poor Syrian people; this is one reason why so many are fleeing Syria - the western sanctions, about which we never hear a word!"

If we don''t stand up to confront these crimes, we're guilty because they are committed in our name and allegedly for our "safety and security". Do you feel safer than before 9/11 and thewars of the 21st century?

Alistair Crooke:

Cornering-russia-risking-world-war-iii "

Official Washington is awash with tough talk about Russia and the need to punish President Putin for his role in Ukraine and Syria. But this bravado ignores Russia’s genuine national interests, its “red lines,” and the risk that “tough-guy-ism” can lead to nuclear war, as Alastair Crooke explains.
Alastair Crooke, Consortium News, 11 Dec 2015
We all know the narrative in which we (the West) are seized. It is the narrative of the Cold War: America versus the “Evil Empire.” And, as Professor Ira Chernus has written, since we are “human” and somehow they (the USSR or, now, ISIS) plainly are not, we must be their polar opposite in every way.
“If they are absolute evil, we must be the absolute opposite. It’s the old apocalyptic tale: God’s people versus Satan’s. It ensures that we never have to admit to any meaningful connection with the enemy.” It is the basis to America’s and Europe’s claim to exceptionalism and leadership.
And “buried in the assumption that the enemy is not in any sense human like us, is [an] absolution for whatever hand we may have had in sparking or contributing to evil’s rise and spread. How could we have fertilized the soil of absolute evil or bear any responsibility for its successes? It’s a basic postulate of wars against evil: God’s people must be innocent,” (and that the evil cannot be mediated, for how can one mediate with evil).
Westerners may generally think ourselves to be rationalist and (mostly) secular, but Christian modes of conceptualizing the world still permeate contemporary foreign policy.
It is this Cold War narrative of the Reagan era, with its correlates that America simply stared down the Soviet Empire through military and – as importantly – financial “pressures,” whilst making no concessions to the enemy.
What is sometimes forgotten, is how the Bush neo-cons gave their “spin” to this narrative for the Middle East by casting Arab national secularists and Ba’athists as the offspring of “Satan”:  David Wurmser was advocating in 1996, “expediting the chaotic collapse” of secular-Arab nationalism in general, and Baathism in particular. He concurred with King Hussein of Jordan that “the phenomenon of Baathism” was, from the very beginning, “an agent of foreign, namely Soviet policy.”
Moreover, apart from being agents of socialism, these states opposed Israel, too. So, on the principle that if these were the enemy, then my enemy’s enemy (the kings, Emirs and monarchs of the Middle East) became the Bush neo-cons friends.  And they remain such today – however much their interests now diverge from those of the U.S.
The problem, as Professor Steve Cohen, the foremost Russia scholar in the U.S., laments, is that it is this narrative which has precluded America from ever concluding any real ability to find a mutually acceptable modus vivendi with Russia – which it sorely needs, if it is ever seriously to tackle the phenomenon of Wahhabist jihadism (or resolve the Syrian conflict).
What is more, the “Cold War narrative” simply does not reflect history, but rather the narrative effaces history: It looses for us the ability to really understand the demonized “calous tyrant” – be it (Russian) President Vladimir Putin or (Ba’athist) President Bashar al-Assad – because we simply ignore the actual history of how that state came to be what it is, and, our part in it becoming what it is.
Indeed the state, or its leaders, often are not what we think they are – at all. Cohen explains: “The chance for a durable Washington-Moscow strategic partnership was lost in the 1990 after the Soviet Union ended. Actually it began to be lost earlier, because it was [President Ronald] Reagan and [Soviet leader Mikhail] Gorbachev who gave us the opportunity for a strategic partnership between 1985-89.
“And it certainly ended under the Clinton Administration, and it didn’t end in Moscow. It ended in Washington — it was squandered and lost in Washington. And it was lost so badly that today, and for at least the last several years (and I would argue since the Georgian war in 2008), we have literally been in a new Cold War with Russia.
“Many people in politics and in the media don’t want to call it this, because if they admit, ‘Yes, we are in a Cold War,’ they would have to explain what they were doing during the past 20 years. So they instead say, ‘No, it is not a Cold War.’
“Here is my next point. This new Cold War has all of the potential to be even more dangerous than the preceding 40-year Cold War, for several reasons. First of all, think about it. The epicentre of the earlier Cold War was in Berlin, not close to Russia. There was a vast buffer zone between Russia and the West in Eastern Europe.
“Today, the epicentre is in Ukraine, literally on Russia’s borders. It was the Ukrainian conflict that set this off, and politically Ukraine remains a ticking time bomb. Today’s confrontation is not only on Russia’s borders, but it’s in the heart of Russian-Ukrainian ‘Slavic civilization.’ This is a civil war as profound in some ways as was America’s Civil War.”
Cohen continued: “My next point: and still worse – You will remember that after the Cuban Missile Crisis, Washington and Moscow developed certain rules-of-mutual conduct. They saw how dangerously close they had come to a nuclear war, so they adopted “No-Nos,’ whether they were encoded in treaties or in unofficial understandings. Each side knew where the other’s red line was. Both sides tripped over them on occasion but immediately pulled back because there was a mutual understanding that there were red lines.
“TODAY THERE ARE NO RED LINES. One of the things that Putin and his predecessor President Medvedev keep saying to Washington is: You are crossing our Red Lines! And Washington said, and continues to say, ‘You don’t have any red lines. We have red lines and we can have all the bases we want around your borders, but you can’t have bases in Canada or Mexico. Your red lines don’t exist.’  This clearly illustrates that today there are no mutual rules of conduct.
“Another important point: Today there is absolutely no organized anti-Cold War or Pro-Detente political force or movement in the United States at all –– not in our political parties, not in the White House, not in the State Department, not in the mainstream media, not in the universities or the think tanks. … None of this exists today. …
“My next point is a question: Who is responsible for this new Cold War? I don’t ask this question because I want to point a finger at anyone. The position of the current American political media establishment is that this new Cold War is all Putin’s fault – all of it, everything. We in America didn’t do anything wrong. At every stage, we were virtuous and wise and Putin was aggressive and a bad man. And therefore, what’s to rethink? Putin has to do all of the rethinking, not us.”
These two narratives, the Cold War narrative, and the neocons’ subsequent “spin” on it: i.e. Bill Kristol’s formulation (in 2002) that precisely because of its Cold War “victory,” America could, and must, become the “benevolent global hegemon,” guaranteeing and sustaining the new American-authored global order – an “omelette that cannot be made without breaking eggs” – converge and conflate in Syria, in the persons of President Assad and President Putin.
President Obama is no neocon, but he is constrained by the global hegemon legacy, which he must either sustain, or be labeled as the arch facilitator of America’s decline. And the President is also surrounded by R2P (“responsibility-to-protect”) proselytizers, such as Samantha Power, who seem to have convinced the President that “the tyrant” Assad’s ouster would puncture and collapse the Wahhabist jihadist balloon, allowing “moderate” jihadists such as Ahrar al-Sham to finish off the deflated fragments of the punctured ISIS balloon.
In practice, President Assad’s imposed ouster precisely will empower ISIS, rather than implode it, and the consequences will ripple across the Middle East – and beyond. President Obama privately may understand the nature and dangers of the Wahhabist cultural revolution, but seems to adhere to the conviction that everything will change if only President Assad steps down. The Gulf States said the same about Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Iraq. He has gone (for now), but what changed? ISIS got stronger.
Of course if we think of ISIS as evil, for evil’s sake, bent on mindless, whimsical slaughter, “what a foolish task it obviously [would be] to think about the enemy’s actual motives. After all, to do so would be to treat them as humans, with human purposes arising out of history. It would smack of sympathy for the devil. Of course,” Professor Chernus continues, “this means that, whatever we might think of their actions, we generally ignore a wealth of evidence that the Islamic State’s fighters couldn’t be more human or have more comprehensible motivations.”
Indeed, ISIS and the other Caliphate forces have very clear human motivations and clearly articulated political objectives, and none of these is in any way consistent with the type of Syrian State that America says it wants for Syria. This precisely reflects the danger of becoming hostage to a certain narrative, rather than being willing to examine the prevailing conceptual framework more critically.
America lies far away from Syria and the Middle East, and as Professor Stephen Cohen notes, “unfortunately, today’s reports seem to indicate that the White House and State Department are thinking primarily how to counter Russia’s actions in Syria. They are worried, it was reported, that Russia is diminishing America’s leadership in the world.”
It is a meme of perpetual national insecurity, of perpetual fears about America’s standing and of challenges to its standing, Professor Chernus suggests.
But Europe is not “far away”; it lies on Syria’s doorstep.  It is also neighbor to Russia. And in this connection, it is worth pondering Professor Cohen’s last point: Washington’s disinclination to permit Russia any enhancement to its standing in Europe, or in the non-West, through its initiative strategically to defeat Wahhabist jihadism in Syria, is not only to play with fire in the Middle East. It is playing with a fire of even greater danger: to do both at the same time seems extraordinarily reckless.
Cohen again: “The false idea [has taken root] that the nuclear threat ended with the Soviet Union: In fact, the threat became more diverse and difficult. This is something the political elite forgot. It was another disservice of the Clinton Administration (and to a certain extent the first President Bush in his re-election campaign) saying that the nuclear dangers of the preceding Cold War era no longer existed after 1991. The reality is that the threat grew, whether by inattention or accident, and is now more dangerous than ever.”
As Europe becomes accomplice in raising the various pressures on Russia in Syria – economically through sanctions and other financial measures, in Ukraine and Crimea, and in beckoning Montenegro, Georgia and the Baltic towards NATO – we should perhaps contemplate the paradox that Russia’s determination to try to avoid war is leading to war.
Russia’s call to co-operate with Western states against the scourge of ISIS; its low-key and carefully crafted responses to such provocations as the ambush of its SU-24 bomber in Syria; and President Putin’s calm rhetoric, are all being used by Washington and London to paint Russia as a “paper tiger,” whom no one needs fear.
In short, Russia is being offered only the binary choice: to acquiesce to the “benevolent” hegemon, or to prepare for war.

Tucker: Would war against Assad make US safer?

Why is America so blood thirsty?

Eastern Ghouta chemical weapons attack
A first-responder with Syria Civil Defense – better known as the White Helmets – carries the body of a child from a building after a suspected chemical weapons attack in Douma, Eastern Ghouta, April 7, 2018. Image: @SyriaCivilDef/Twitter

Especially when it is Arab blood....?

"Leaders on both sides of the Isle in Congress, in the media, in our Intelligence Services, and virtually every over-funded Think-tank in Washington, have suddenly aligned tonight on a single point of agreement: America must go to war in Syria immediately! "

Comment:

This thing has been a long time in the oven. A few years back when Cameron's plan to attack Syria was blocked by the British Parliament, I commented that the whole ISIS thing was just a ruse to allow attacks into and over sovereign Syrian territory, contrary to international law.

You cannot uphold international law by breaking it!

The 'Syrian Uprising', like those that preceded it elsewhere, was largely Western inspired and promoted, on the back of the Neocon/Zionist agenda, kicked off by the criminal fraud of 9/11 that has never been admitted or prosecuted.

The US has described the ongoing attacks as 'brutal'

As long as Western Governments continue to deny the truth about these events - indeed Cameron wanted to make illegal any suggestion it was not as officially described - we may be sure that it is all driven by a deep dark agenda, of which the politicians are merely either stupid or corrupt mouth-pieces.

There is little doubt the Gouta District of Damascus has now suffered from  chlorine-based, chemical attacks with dreadful consequences. The issue is WHO  is responsible for them? Sky News appears to be in no doubt. Can Murdoch controlled, and Zionist-supporting, 'Sky' be trusted?
https://news.sky.com/story/at-least-70-dead-in-chemical-attack-by-syrian-regime-in-eastern-ghouta-says-rescue-group-11322143

It is quite clear that America, Israel and the West wants to blame Assad for them as an excuse to engage in yet another destructive and pointless war. Whilst outraged by the suffering and loss of life, it sees no paradox in arguing for yet more. Undoubtedly as in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, tens of thousands of civilian deaths and the chaos that follows such attacks, counts for nothing.

Yet again Mrs May's Britain, still smarting over an humiliation over the Skripal allegations, is in the vanguard  calling for an "immediate response by the international community" if the claims are proven. Having failed to prove Russian responsibility - even involvement - in Salisbury, this proposition has a certain hollow ring to it.

 (Syrian Civil Defense White Helmets/AP)

In human terms there is no such thing as a "surgical strike", although the Military want us to believe there is. America and the West is becoming obsessed with killing just so long as it is other people that die.

The US State Department is quoted as saying,

"The regime's history of using chemical weapons against its own people (is) not in dispute, and in fact began with a sarin gas attack in Eastern Ghouta on August 21, 2013 which killed over 1,000 Syrians.

"As we've said, Russia ultimately bears responsibility for the brutal targeting of countless Syrians with chemical weapons. Russia's protection of the Assad regime and failure to stop the use of chemical weapons in Syria calls into question its commitment to resolving the overall crisis."

The problem is the 2013 incident very much IS in dispute. The sheer stupidity of Assad sanctioning a chemical attack whilst UN Inspectors were on the doorstep, is strongly suggestive it WASN'T him, but rather done by Western and Israeli-backed terrorist opposition groups aligned to so-called ISIS.

Note also, also in tune with the current popular anti-Russian meme, Russia is directly blamed. How convenient then that it should also be blame for a "military-grade 'Novichok' nerve agent attack on the Skripals in Salisbury - a story that is falling apart from every angle?

This also goes for a chlorine gas attack almost exactly a year ago in April 2017 when more than 80 people were killed in an alleged Sarin attack in the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhoun -- an attack that prompted the United States to launch 59 Tomahawk Cruise missiles at a Syrian airbase.

Syria repeatedly denied it was responsible. Damascus said an air strike may have hit a chemical weapons depot in the rebel-held area.

Following that incident, Syria gave up its Chemical weapons stocks under the supervision of America - in fact they were disposed of on an American warship - which is one of the little problems in blaming Assad for the latest incident in Douma, Eastern Gouta, in which dozens are reported to have died.

Blaming Assad for this latest massacre is further undermined by the following facts:

1.  The main source of the information seems to have come from the Western-backed 'White Helmets' proved not only to be closely connected to ISIS/Al Nusra factions but to have fabricated rescues for the media and even been directly involved in assassination of children on camera! http://tass.com/politics/943615 ; https://www.mintpressnews.com/investigation-white-helmets-committing-acts-terror-across-syria/231597/

2.  Syrian troops have only recently released details of a chemical manufacturing base in a 'liberated' section of Gouta under the direct control of the terrorist opposition groups there. The basic ingredients apparently suggest Saudi Arabia as the source.
https://mobile.almasdarnews.com/article/syrian-army-uncovers-militant-chemical-factory-in-east-ghouta-video/  ; https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201803151062549525-syrian-army-militants-plant-chemical-weapons/

3.  Reports are also coming in that t
he Syrian army has intercepted a truckload of weapons, including American and British ones, heading to the terrorists holed up in Eastern Ghouta amid its operation to liberate the Damascus suburb.  http://parstoday.com/en/news/middle_east-i79305-syria_intercepts_ghouta_bound_us_uk_arms

Syria chemical attack

So before America rushes yet again towards dropping missiles onto an already inflamed situation, it should take a long hard look at who is actually creating the the violence and in particular causing these chemical weapon incidents, responsible for so much suffering to human beings.

War and its causes we may be assured is a very, very dirty game and with some justification it has been said, that "truth is the first casualty".

"War-Crime Putin not only handing Assad the revolver. He is firing it himself!" (1)

https://static.standard.co.uk/s3fs-public/styles/story_medium/public/thumbnails/image/2016/03/06/14/boris2.jpg

So said Britain's Foreign Secretary today on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show. Boris Johnson suggested that a deadly attack on an aid convoy in Syria last week could have been deliberately carried out by Russian aircraft. If so, he said it could amount to a war crime.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was "not only... handing  Assad the revolver", he said, "he is in some instances actually firing the revolver himself."
Of course this neatly fits the prevailing narrative against both Assad and Putin, already painted as the villain in the Ukraine. Let us not dwell on the fact that this, and the events surrounding it, including the crash of MH17, were fraudulently contrived and presented as Russian aggression when the very opposite was true. (2; 3)

Meanwhile by virtue of a request of a triumvirate of the deeply untrustworthy - America, France and Britain - the  UN Security Council is due to meet on this morning (Sunday) in New York to discuss the situation in Syria, with particular reference to Russian bombing in Aleppo.

Of course Johnson's view, is a nuanced and one-sided one. In its effort to keep in step with its partners in crime, it conveniently fails to mention some significant and salient points. Regrettably this is what we have come to expect from the British Government and BBC, never recovered from its bruising "sexing up" battle, prior to the Iraq invasion. (4)

It is perhaps needless to remind ourselves that the allegation was in fact true; that claims of WMD were wholly fraudulent and known to be so when they were made; a respected and highly qualified scientist died in suspicious circumstances as a direct result; and that the invasion of Iraq was both immoral and illegal under international law. (5)

Whilst we are at it, we just as well add that the attacks that took place on 9/11, used to justify all the military action in the subsequent fifteen years - recently again in the news regarding Obama vetoing the ability of survivors and relatives of those that died, to sue Saudi Arabia for its alleged part in it - was wholly contrived in a criminal conspiracy between essentially the American Government itself and Israel. (6)

This it must be said, is not a strong moral position from which to lecture the Russian and Syrian governments, particularly when it is clear that America, Israel and the west (principally Britain and France) with the active participation and support in money, men and equipment of the Gulf States, have been pursuing a consistent policy of destabilisation of multiple countries in the region, from which only Jordan and Israel appear to escaped unscathed. Unscathed because they haven't been targetted!

Of course Iran was also in the cross-hairs, temporarily suspended for the moment by the nuclear agreement, but likely to be resurrected again at the insistence of Israel on some contrived pretext, when a new American President is in place. The $38 billion aid deal, largely for arms, is earnest of that!

QUESTION: So what are the inconvenient facts, conveniently omitted from the Johnson/BBC propaganda broadcast? I will list some of them below:

1. Britain has been actively supporting so called 'ISIS' terrorists and training them!

When Russian aircraft twice bombed a remote garrison in southeastern Syria on June 14th or 16th 2016, alarm bells sounded at the Pentagon and the Ministry of Defence in London. It also revealed a secret that the facility was a base of operations for elite American and British forces in precisely ISIS held territory within Syria, the only reasonable inference being that they were training ISIS fighters. The British Government declined to comment. Well of course! (7)

QUESTION: Shouldn't the British people be advised what its government is truly up to on the territory of another sovereign state Mr Johnson?

2. Britain took part in a four-nation coordinated attack on Syrian troops fighting ISIS at Jabal Thardeh

On September 10th 2016 four countries (America, Australia, Denmark and Britain) took part in coordinated air attacks that targeted Syrian troops fighting ISIS insurgents at Jabal Thardeh, DEIR EZZOR, SYRIA. At first it was stated that sixty two soldiers had been killed and a further hundred injured but this has been subsequently raised progressively. According to the 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division, 106 bodies were discovered at Jabal Thardeh, with only 43 bodies identified among the dead.

The Syrian People’s Assembly called on the parliaments of the world to condemn the American attack on a Syrian Arab Army position in Deir Ezzor which took place on Saturday. In a statement on Sunday, the Assembly condemned the American aggression in the strongest term, saying that it constitutes direct support by Washington to ISIS and a bid to allow ISIS to seize Deir Ezzor city, stressing that this attack reveals the true face of the US administration and the falseness of Washington’s claims of fighting terrorism. (7)

At Russia's request the United Nations Security Council was convened to discuss the matter which the American representive, Samantha Power, poured scorn on. She accused Russia of "a stunt", "a cynical and hypocritical attempt at cheap point scoring" and "grandstanding".  What's that saying about "methinks she doth protest too much"?

Of course within hours both American, Australian and British governments expressed its regret at the strikes and said they were a 'mistake'. This can only support the view of a cynical and false denial by the British and its partners purely for public relations purposes and that indeed as the Syrian Government suggests, it provides proof of ISIS-support against Syrian forces.

OBSERVATION: Neither questions to, or comments from, Mr Johnson on this dishonourable double dealing you notice.

3. US bombing has killed countless civilians in Syria

From this Rense.com article "US Air strikes in Syria Killing Civilians, not ISIS Fighters" by Stephen Lendman on 12-8-15 the following abstract:

"September UN report alone said the US-led coalition’s continued “airstrikes against ISIL in Syria on a near-daily basis with reports of some 865 people killed, including 50 civilians, in Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, Hasakeh, Idlib and Raqqa since strikes began” in September 2014.

"Retired US Army Col. Douglas MacGregor called Washington’s campaign completely unsuccessful from the standpoint of destroying ISIS, but it’s an enormous success story for ISIS. It is actually helping the Sunni Islamists recruit new people - more than a thousand every month from across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East."
(8)

This general policy of repeated indefensible civilian deaths was repeated quite recently. On the 19th July 2016 the Syrian village of Manbij was attacked from the air, killing at least 73 civilians, a majority of them women and children. Activists had warned of high civilian casualty rates from air strikes in Manbij even before the latest air strike.

"In the early hours of Tuesday morning, activists described coalition aircraft hitting a cluster of houses in the village of Tokkhar, where nearly 200 people had gathered to seek shelter as the front line shifted towards their homes. Most of those inside were killed or injured.

“The death toll is 117. We could document [the identity of] 73 civilians including 35 children and 20 women. The rest of the dead bodies are charred, or have been reduced to shreds,” said Adnan al-Housen, an activist from Manbij."
 (9)

QUESTION: How is it possible for Johnson to take the high moral ground concerning civilian deaths without reference to these inexcusable, and largely unpublicised massacres?

4. A Russian attack in Aleppo on .... killed American, Saudi, British and Israeli 'advisors' supporting Al Nusra/ISIS fighters.

From 'Global Research' we glean this piece of implicating and highly embarrassing unpublicised news:

" The US and its allies had established a Field Operations Room in the Aleppo region integrated by intelligence personnel. Until it was targeted by a Russian missile attack on September 20, this “semi-secret” facility was operated by US, British, Israeli, Turkish, Saudi and Qatari intelligence personnel.

"According to Fars News, this intelligence facility was attacked by Russia
in the immediate wake of the US Air Strikes against Syrian SAA forces at Deir Ezzor in support of the ISIS-Daesh terrorists. “The Russian warships stationed in Syria’s coastal waters targeted and destroyed a foreign military operations room, killing over two dozen Israeli and western intelligence officers”

“The Russian warships fired three Caliber missiles at the foreign officers’ coordination operations room in Dar Ezza region in the Western part of Aleppo near Sam’an mountain, killing 30 Israeli and western officers,”

The operations room was located in the Western part of Aleppo province in the middle of sky-high Sam’an mountain and old caves. The region is deep into a chain of mountains."
(10)

This goes a long way towards explaining the spirited response to the attack on the Red Cross/Red Crescent aid convoy and blaming it on Syrian/Russian forces. This is strenuously denied by Russia which has also produced evidence this was in fact an American drone attack designed to torpedo the agreed Kelly/Lavrov negotiated truce and paint the former in a bad light. (11)  Given what we know of the whole duplicitous business, this is far from unlikely.

QUESTION: So Mr Johnson were we involved in such an operation in concert with others including Israelis, and have British personnel been killed in the process?

5. Both Turkey (a member of NATO) and Israel have been proved to be actively supporting ISIS!

I am running out of breath! Do I really need to provide the evidence yet again for this statement? I refer you just this one recent article that points to German accusations. (11) Since when of course we have seen a series of alleged terrorist attacks in Germany and an alleged attempted 'coup de tat' in Turkey itself following which there has been a huge and violent crack-down on a whole section of civil society and media. Are these things co-incidental? Of course not. Merely America and NATO up to its usual dirty tricks in concert with Israel again.

As to the latter and its support of ISIS groups I just refer you to another Global Research article from 2015 in which the Israeli  Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon admitted as much. (12)

"According to the al-Araby al-Jadeed newspaper, “Israel has in one way or another become the main marketer of ISIS oil. Without them, most ISIS-produced oil would have remained going between Iraq, Syria and Turkey. Even the three companies would not receive the oil if they did not have a buyer in Israel.”

QUESTION:  Why Mr Johnson in your discussion of Syria and terrorism more generally, do you never mention the very active role of both Turkey and Israel in support of the very groups we are supposed to be fighting?

6. Britain deeply implicated in the continued bombing of civilians by Saudi Arabia in Yemen.

A whole article could be devoted to the duplicitous and hypocritical position of Britain in relation to the Saudi/Israeli bombing raids on civilian targets in Yemen, supported by the arms supplied by mainly Britain and America. You will notice in contrast to Aleppo now, and the alleged 'war crimes' by Russia, we hear virtually nothing regarding the brutal aggression against Yemen and our part in facilitating it, the latest being at least 54 Yemeni civilians killed in Hodeida a few days ago. (13)

QUESTION: If so outraged by alleged Russian action (which is denied and was quite possibly a provocative act by either America or its terrorist groups) why not a word of condemnation of the slaughter of civilians, carried out by a Saudi/Israeli aggression, with British and American weaponry and support, in Yemen?

CONCLUSION

If there are not enough reasons here to support doubts concerning British sincerity and consistency in its position regarding Syria in general and Russia's role in Aleppo in particular, I give up!

Take an Arial Tour of Syria Now! Don't it make you proud to be Human?

http://www.360syria.com/intro

This is the result of bombs and confrontation with not a little interference from the 'super powers'. Innocent people suffer indescribably.(1) Is it any wonder that Europe is now having to cope with the biggest migration by desperate refugees from war ever known?(2)  Some have argued that from the beginning this was intentional policy.(3)

An 'Arab Spring' in 2011, quickly developed into a brutal and bloody civil war. Quick UN-led intervention might have averted the chaos, destruction and mounting death toll that followed. However we were told that this was an impractical proposition. The cynical amongst us may take the view that self-destruction was the preferred option by America and the West. How could it be other after the experience of Iraq (not to mention Egypt and Libya!)?(4)

A sectarian civil war between Shia Alawites, backed by Iran and Russia, versus Sunni rebels, backed covertly by the Gulf States, Israel and the West, did nothing to advance freedom or peace. In fact the West's position was deeply disingenuous, in that the main opposition force created to fight Assad's regime, the so-called 'ISIS', was knowingly supported, funded and trained by the West, yet at the same time represented as it's principal enemy, both home and abroad.(5)

Europe has suffered directly from its inflammatory meddling in Syria, as it has in the other Middle East countries referred to. Mass migration is destabilising. The threat of terrorism, much of it fabricated, has been used to undermine liberal democracy. The Paris attacks have resulted in a continued state of emergency - effectively Marshall Law - and existential fear and infringements of civil liberties throughout Europe.(6) On whom will the cost of rebuilding Syria fall, or is the plan to leave it in ruins?(7)

It is hard to conclude other than that all this was not part of a wicked long-term strategy by an American/Israeli/European/Gulf States coalition. Indeed the planning documents have been widely leaked and alluded to.(8)(9) Now paradoxically the agreement that was required between Russia and America at the beginning of the conflict, resulting in a fragile cessation of bombing at least, has been achieved after five months of Russian involvement.(10)

Just today (15.3.2016 - 'Beware the Ides of March!) it was announced that Putin has pulled back his military aircraft from the region, ostensibly because the "objectives of the mission have been achieved".(11) However it would be naive to think this was even a partial explanation. Much more likely was a 'quid quo pro' understanding with the United States. What that is, waits to be revealed but it would be surprising if it did not involve assurances regarding Russia's continuing influence in the area and in the Ukraine, within the general context of trade and bi-lateral relations.

It is just a tragic commentary on international politics, that agreement could not have been reached by scheming power brokers, without devastating the area and bringing so much misery and suffering to the population. People matter little in strategic decision making. No one comes out of this mess with honour or glory, not excluding Britain's Prime Minister, David Cameron - a view exceptionally and publically expressed by no less a person than the President of the United States - not without a big dollop of hypocrisy, I would suggest.(12)

Dear Tim,
Syria

My name is Tony. I’m writing because I want you to get the real story, to know what President Assad’s regime is really doing to the people of Syria.

When the Syrian uprising began five years ago, it was simply a group of people who had hope for the future. They didn’t want a war.

But that’s exactly what the Syrian government gave them. A war that targets families, hospitals and schools.

Take a 360° tour of Syria – a place where people live in fear of the sky

I work for Lamba Media Production – a group of Syrian media activists, photographers, actors and producers. We risk our lives every day to shed light on what’s happening in Syria and to document the atrocities being carried out on the Syrian people.

We’re working with Amnesty to gather powerful 360° photos of the devastation caused by barrel bombs – makeshift weapons, filled with scrap metal, dropped on us from above by the Syrian army.

See the evidence and share it – help spread this far and wide

Everyone here is young and Syrian. Nearly all of us have a parent, a sibling, a cousin, dear friends or colleagues who have died in this devastating war. We have all lost a city we call home.

We are all grieving but instead of choosing to pick up weapons, we choose to pick up cameras to tell our stories to the people of the world in the hope that they will do something.

Why do we risk our lives? We believe that telling stories can change things. We believe that eventually this war will end and people will talk – this will be the solution to our problems.

Before we began, there was only the regime’s media, only their side of the story. We want to provide the Syrian people – and the rest of the world – with the right information so they can think objectively and make up their own minds.

Look at our work and share it with your friends and family

Together with Amnesty, our footage will help to form a body of evidence of the war crimes and human rights abuses in Syria. They bring us one small step closer to holding the perpetrators of these atrocities to account.
Best wishes,

Tony al Taieb
CEO, Lamba Media Production

Russia’s Military Aims Achieved, Putin Switches to Diplomacy — Paul Craig Roberts

Russia’s Military Aims Achieved, Putin Switches to Diplomacy
Paul Craig Roberts
American presstitutes, such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, expressed surprise at Russia’s support for the Syrian ceasefire, which Russia has been seeking, by Putin’s halt to attacks on the Islamic State and a partial withdrawal of Russian forces. The American presstitutes are captives of their own propaganda and are now surprised at the failure of their propagandistic predictions.
Having stripped the Islamic State of offensive capability and liberated Syria from the Washington-supported terrorists, Putin has now shifted to diplomacy. If peace fails in Syria, the failure cannot be blamed on Russia.
It is a big risk for Putin to trust the neocon-infested US government, but if ISIS renews the conflict with support from Washington, Putin’s retention of air and naval bases in Syria will allow Russia to resume military operations. Astute observers such as Professor Michel Chossudovsky at Global Research, Stephen Cohen, and The Saker have noted that the Russian withdrawal is really a time-out during which Putin’s diplomacy takes the place of Russian military capability.
With ISIS beat down, there is less danger of Washington using a peace-seeking ceasefire to resurrect the Islamic State’s military capability. Therefore, the risk Putin is taking by trusting Washington is worth the payoff if the result is to enhance Russian diplomacy and elevate it above Washington’s reliance on threats, coercion, and violence. What Putin is really aiming for is to make Europeans realize that by serving as Washington’s vassals European governments are supporting violence over peace and may themselves be swept by the neoconservatives into a deadly conflict with Russia that would ensure Europe’s destruction.
Putin has also demonstrated that, unlike Washington, Russia is able to achieve decisive military results in a short time without Russian casualties and to withdraw without becoming a permanent occupying force. This very impressive performance is causing the world to rethink which country is really the superpower.
The appearance of American decline is reinforced by the absence of capable leaders among the candidates for the Republican and Democratic party nominations for president. America is no longer capable of producing political leadership as successive presidents become progressively worse. The rest of the world must be puzzled how a country unable to produce a fit candidate for president can be a superpower.
