Defence Secretary sacked for not keeping a secret!
(Or did he? We don't really know)
A case of Tweedledum and Tweedledee?
The Deputy PM states: "That is not a judgement that I or any other minister in any government can make. Whether a criminal offence has been committed is a matter of independent prosecution authorities and ultimately for the courts."
The police chief, Cressida Dick (of 7/7 fame) in best management-speak says, "The gateway process has been in place for about six years and a formal decision would be taken by the deputy commissioner but that is hypothetical because we have not had any referral from the Cabinet Office."
So the govt. can't act unless the police investigate, and the police can't investigate unless the Govt tell them to. Meanwhile a senior Govt minister has been sacked for breaking the Official Secrets Act .... but he hasn't.
This is what in normal parlance would be called either a "stitch-up", a "cover-up", or a "balls-up" I think. Meanwhile Parliament physically and institutionally collapses and polls apparently show the populace want "strong leadership". The ruins of a once great country are all about us.
