Barcelona Terror Attack Questions

There will be many more questions than the few I pose here. As usual I am limited for time and space, not to mention factual details from other than the unquestioning media sources. 

Perhaps I should summarise them before I set off on this brief discussion of a few of them. Sadly I cannot provide satisfactory answers. So:

• why was it that the male and female couple - Mr Mouncey from Hull and Miss Walton from Lincoln - were both used separately, by newspaper and BBC sources as principal witnesses?
• why are the witnesses used by the media so often attractive young women?
• what caused the loud "bangs", apparently with elapse of time in between? Is it reasonable to suggest that this was created from impacting people only?
• the driver of the van escaped on foot apparently under the gaze of police on scene. A police commander states the only reason he wasn't shot was because of a danger of hitting members of the public. Further another van was found abandoned 80 miles north which it is claimed was the getaway vehicle. Is this all credible?
• yet again we have a "thoughtful terrorist" helping investigators by leaving his identity documents inside the hired van. This identified Driss Oukabir, 28, as the culprit. Unfortunately, seeing the circulated pictures he handed himself in and claimed it must have been his younger brother who stole his documents to hire the van. Is this is a familiar indicator of a set-up that has not quite gone according to plan?

• Although there are reports of gunmen and a hostage situation subsequent to the main attack, I can find no information on this or what happened. In any event how does this tie in with the young 18 year old alleged driver of the attack vehicle?

Here are two almost identical accounts in two British local newspapers representing areas from which the two witnesses come - Hull and Lincoln. 

Rather coincidentally, in view of what must have been thousands witnessing the event, his girlfriend was also employed by the BBC to be the witness of choice for their top story report and interview on the one o'clock news on Friday 18th August, 2017. 

Why was it that different media outlets used just these two people independentently? Some might think that arriving just an hour before the incident (for Mr Mouncey's birthday) and leaving immediately after is just a tad strange.

 He refers two TWO large "bangs". A question that obviously arises what would have caused these? The van apparently ploughed into people, and although deadly in its effect, it it is unlikely to make a "bang" unless hitting something very solid, and then only once. So what were these two loud bangs to which he refers?

This image of the stationary van, though seriously damaged at the front, proves it did not hit any solid object on its route. The reported "bangs" therefore remain something of a mystery.

It should be noted that in one of the few variations in the two reports, the Hull Mail quotes Mr Mouncey as saying he heard a loud "crash" NOT  a "bang" - a small but significant variable in an otherwise almost identical  report.

In this BBC interview here the witness says on being asked about "the bangs" he had referred to, that he thought it was the sound of the van running into the people. Nick Mouncey, 28, was visiting the Spanish city as a surprise birthday trip from his girlfriend.

He said the commotion started when he heard a loud bang.

He said: "We were sat in a cafe bar about fifty yards from where it all happened. We were just sat having a glass of wine and relaxing and we heard this huge bang.

"There was then a wall of people running and screaming towards us from where the van crashed.

“We all ran off into a local cafe and they kept people inside. We were there for a couple of minutes and eventually went back into the street and I heard another big bang.

“It was a bit more scary and this time they closed all the shutters when we went back in the cafe. They then opened the back door of the cafe to get people out and we left there.”

Mr Mouncey added that he and his girlfriend, Stephanie Walton, have not left their hotel since the attack, on what was supposed to be a holiday to remember.

He added: "It was actually my birthday yesterday when it happened and my girlfriend had booked the trip as a surprise for me. It’s a surprise I’ll never forget.

“We had walked across the market bit where it happened an hour before and were planning on going to the Hard Rock, where the van went, just when it happened. If it was five minutes later we could have been there.

“We haven’t really left the hotel now we are back. We are flying back tomorrow and it’s obviously been very edgy since.”

There was a second terror attack yesterday in the country at the coastal resort of Cambrils.

Five terrorists were also shot dead by police after ramming people in the city.

A man from Hull has described seeing people “screaming and fleeing” after a terrorist drove a van into crowds of people in Barcelona.

At least 13 people were killed and dozens wounded when the van was driven into crowds on Las Ramblas on Thursday afternoon, in what Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has described as a “jihadist attack”

Three people have been arrested so far in connection to the attacks. Five people wearing fake suicide belts were shot dead in a related attack later on in the evening.

Meanwhile a Northern Ireland report has this attractive witness who happens to be the Dublin Live Editor reporting on the event. Note the repeat of the shutters and reference to the two armed men at the restaurant about which further details are hard to come by. Were they captured? Was there a shoot-out? Were there any casualties?

This video shows a Co Armagh woman describing the horror as dozens of people have been injured after a truck ploughed into a crowd of people in Barcelona.

Brave Alana Fearon was on holidays in Barcelona when the horrific incident happened, the Irish Mirror reports .

The Dublin Live Editor and Armagh native was rushed into a restaurant where the shutters were pulled and the premise went into lockdown.

Two armed men have reportedly stormed a restaurant in Barcelona just minutes after a van ploughed into pedestrians in the Spanish city.

DublnLive.ie editor and Irish Mirror journalist Alana said: said: "Police came from all angles and took everybody into shops.

"We just saw lots and lots of tourists running down La Rambla, which is obviously the busiest area in Barcelona.

"We thought that initially that it was pickpockets, because we had been warned and we thought police were coming after them.

"We saw up to 13 police vans, riot police, flying past us in vans. Doors open, rifles. We were sitting at one of the bars in the middle of the strip.

"Everyone was asking 'what happened?' There was no ambulances initially. We didn't understand what happened. A police car came up.

"A police man with a megaphone was hanging out the front of the door and telling everyone to get inside.

"We were put inside the bar where we're staying and the shutters were put down and everyone was very upset.

"We were initially very, very scared as we were supposed to be in Placa de Catalunya.

"That's where the airport bus goes from, so it would have been a very busy square. But we decided to sit on and get a taxi so we didn't go up to it.
